Closing off my coverage of the Virginia Film Festival, another highlight of my festival experience came in the form of festival selection, ANIMALS. Directed by Collin Schiffli, the film tells the story of a young couple that exist somewhere between homelessness and the fantasy life they imagine for themselves. Though they masterfully con and steal in an attempt to stay one step ahead of their addiction, they are ultimately forced to face the reality of their situation.
At the festival, I spoke with the film’s star/writer, David Dastmalchian, to discuss the personal inspiration behind the film’s screenplay. Perhaps best known for his minor role as one of the Joker’s henchmen, Thomas Schiff, in Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT, the actor/writer’s star is on the rise thanks not only to his efforts in this selection, but also due to his mysterious role in the upcoming Marvel film, ANTMAN.

As mentioned before, in our interview, David initially opens up about the personal experiences that inspired the film’s screenplay. However, as the interview continues, the subject eventually shifts not only to his time spent visiting the festival (this year being his first time), but also to his experience working on ANTMAN. You can check out the interview below….
