When it was first announced, 2014’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY was oftentimes labeled as the 1st film to possibly dismantle that the financial juggernaut that is the MCU (or Marvel Cinematic Universe, for the uninitiated). However, thanks to memorable characters (see: Groot) and terrific nostalgic and original musical choices, it went on to become one of the stand out entries from Marvel Studios (both critically and financially). Now, flash forward 2 years later, its sequel, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL.2, suddenly finds itself in an unexpected position, that of the hotly anticipated blockbuster. Will it promise great character moment like its predecessor? Additionally, will it again-like its predecessor-feature great music? As mentioned before, the SOLC Awards was ripe with guests; so in addition to speaking to an R&B icon, I also took the opportunity to speak with the lovely Jessica Reedy. Perhaps best known to some of her fans as the runner up in Season 2 of BET”s Sunday’s Best, Reedy has undoubtedly blazed forward since that time, having hit #1 on the Billboard charts and on iTunes with her freshmen album, “From the Heart.”
Now in the midst of her sophomore album release, titled “Transparent,” I spoke with the Michigan native to not only chat about the Awards show, but also to chat about the approach she took in writing her second album. Check out the interview below… Continue reading “2015 Standards of Living Community (SOLC) Awards EXCLUSIVE: Special Guest Jessica Reedy”
Not long ago I took part in the Standards of Living Community (SOLC) Awards, produced by Kappstone Media. As the name of the event suggest, the show acts as a event which recognizes major figures in the community. With that said, this year’s Awards show (like last year) had much to offer in the way of guests: from figures in the world of music to those in the world of sports.
Therfore I took the opportunity to catch up with a few of the said guests; the first of which coming in the form of accomplished music artist, Johnny Gill. In our interview, Mr. Gill opened up about being at the Award show as well as his latest album, “Game Changer.” Check out the interview below… Continue reading “2015 Standards of Living Community Awards (SOLC) Awards EXCLUSIVE: Special Guest Johnny Gill”
Perhaps due largely to the remarkable success of Marvel Studio‘s Shared Cinematic Universe, it would appear that many studios and networks are keen to participate in the growing trend of creating superhero franchises and/or universes of their own, be it on the big screen or the small screen. One example of the trend would be the CW as they prepare to unleash their Arrow spinoff series, The Flash, later this fall. Inspired by the DC Comics superhero of the same name, the series follows Central City police scientist Barry Allen, an everyday guy with the heart of a hero and the genuine desire to help others. After an unexpected and devastating accident at the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator facility strikes Barry, he finds himself suddenly charged with the incredible power to move at super speeds. Starring Grant Gustin (Arrow) in the title role, the series also stars Candice Patton (The Game), Rick Cosnett (The Vampire Diaries), Danielle Panabaker (Necessary Roughness), Carolos Valdes (on Broadway: Once), as well as Tom Cavanagh (Ed), and Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order). Continue reading “EXCLUSIVE: Composer Blake Neely Talks Scoring CW’s THE FLASH”
The 2nd Annual Musical Anatomy of a Superhero
Besides the obvious elements that come into play with superhero films, such as the casting or the effects (which are necessary to bring both the character and their abilities to life), folks often overlook another element which is also vital: the music. No matter how grandiose and epic a superhero film is, it is “naked” without a sweeping music score to complement it. Don’t believe me? Then imagine Tim Burton’s BATMAN without renowned composer’s Danny Elfman’s “Batman Theme” or THE AVENGERSwithout Alan Silvestri “Avengers Theme.” Therefore with all that said it has been confirmed that the “Anatomy of the Superhero” Panel will be making a return appearance at this year’s Comic Con! As was the case last year, the purpose of the panel will be to provide insight on the process of creating a theme, transforming the theme throughout the story line while following the often uphill battle that our heroes travel. Check the details of the panel below….. Continue reading ““Musical Anatomy of a Superhero” Returning To Comic Con!”
