Riggan Thompson (Michael Keaton) was kind of a big deal. Sure, it was twenty years ago, when Thompson starred in the ‘Birdman’ trilogy. Now separated from his wife, broke and caring for his daughter Sam (Emma Stone) in New York City; Riggan mortgages the tattered remnants of relevancy and his Malibu beach house on adapting the 1981 Raymond Carver short story, “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love” for Broadway. Written, directed and starring Thompson; it looks like the last hurrah for the once revered ‘Birdman’.
Stanley Crawford (Colin Firth) is a professional cynic and a pessimist. Which is why he’s succeeded under the stage name Wei Ling Su, a Chinese magician who has brought his secrets of the Orient to Europe. We find Stanley on tour in Berlin, 1928 when he gets word of a spiritualist in the South of France that could be the real deal. Never passing on a moment publicly shame a swindler, Stanley gleefully heads to France. Continue reading “Movie Review – Magic In The Moonlight”

Though we won’t see THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2 in theaters until next summer, it appears that “the folks that be” over at Sony Pictures have so much confidence and investment in the upcoming sequel and/or franchise (in general) Continue reading “More AMAZING SPIDERMAN Sequels Soon To Follow!!”
As it has been stated before, a recent trend that has started among filmmakers (particularly those making superhero films) is their willingness to share details of their highly-anticipated productions with fans through social media…Prime among these said directors has been AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2 director, Marc Webb, who, since the sequel’s production start, has been pretty steady (nearly every day) with updates regarding his film. Now, via his Twitter page, director Marc Webb has posted some arguably “spoil-worthy” pictures (one story-oriented, the other cameo-related) from the production. As always, if you don’t want to be SPOILED do not continue further! Continue reading “New Spoilerific Set Photos For AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2!!”
Meet Eep (Emma Stone). She is the type of adventurous teen that has caused grey hairs in parents since the Stone Age. Her overly protective father Grug (Nicholas Cage) has the purest of intentions, but is essentially keeping the family hostage in their cave. The landscape is a rugged, craggy place lacking food, water and any other sign of humans. There is a difference between living and surviving, and the Croods are surviving, barely. Of late, I noticed that our video collection is skewing more to the DreamWorks side of animated movies instead of Disney/Pixar. That’s not a slight against any other animation houses – it’s just that my 2-year-old seems to like Puss in Boots and How to Train Your Dragon more than others. To be fair, we’ve run Wreck-It Ralph and Cars by her, but she seems to like the other two better. So it’s no surprise that I took her to a screening of DreamWorks’ The Croods on an early Saturday morning, and what did she have to say about it? “I liked it.” And you know what? I liked it an awful lot, too.

Set in Los Angeles, 1949, The Gangster Squad is a shadowy division of the L.A.P.D., commissioned by Chief Bill Parker (Nick Nolte); whose sole purpose is to destroy the mob led by Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). Lead by Sargent John O’Mara (Josh Brolin), the Gangster Squad proceeds with reckless abandon to do just that. The other members of the Gangster Squad shall remain a secret. You’ll find the best performances of the film there. The weapons training of the Squad is one of the more memorable scenes that doesn’t involve bullet-time shootouts.
It’s official! After much speculation and rumor, Spidey’s new arch-nemesis has been confirmed! In addition, another fan- Continue reading “THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2 Finds Its Villain & New Harry Osborn!”
When The Amazing Spider-Man was announced many people out there wondered why the Spider-Man franchise was being revamped with an entirely new cast. The first two movies with Tobey Maguire were good, with the second one of the two being great. The third movie in that franchise though wound up killing it altogether. Blame it on the studio, or whomever you want, it was necessary to reboot the franchise and bring back our web slinger to the silver screen. But does this version of Spider-Man live up to expectations?

When I think about the history of our country, I think of someone writing it using a quill on a piece of paper. You dip the quill into your black ink and gradually and gracefully start to put the words down. But every now and then the ink runs and a giant black spot hits the paper. Those are the errors within the history. And probably the two worst errors and shameful times in our history were slavery, and then the treatment of black citizens after slavery ended. Every country has problems, but when you go so far as to say separate but equal, when you oppress a people, how can they truly be equal?
Arguably the most-anticipated panel at this year’s Comic Con, Sony Pictures had a lot on hand for the Hall H audience at Comic Con this year. Up first was…..
