Movie Review – Criminal

CIA Agent Billy Pope (Ryan Reynolds) is on the run in London and running out of time. Hunted by Hagbardaka Heimbahl (Jordi Molla) a Spanish terrorist, set on the destruction of the Western World; Pope has made a deal with a proficient hacker Jan “The Dutchman” Stroop (Michael Pitt). Stroop is in hiding but has access to the U.S. Military’s arsenal making him a high profile target to Hemibahl, The CIA and a number of groups on the Black Market. Finally captured and killed by Heimbahl’s men, the location of Stroop died with Pope. The race begins anew as London Field Office Director Quaker Wells (Gary Oldman) uses every available resource to him, including transferring the memories of the deceased Pope to a living person.

Dr. Franks (Tommy Lee Jones) has discovered a way to do it, however the perfect candidate is Jericho Stewart (Kevin Costner). Jericho is an unfeeling sociopath, housed in a supermax prison for the rest of his natural life. In a more invasive procedure than ‘Inception’, Jericho is infused with Pope’s memories. Slowly Jericho becomes aware of his plight and as the memories become clearer, but how willing is he to help anyone, especially the CIA given how expendable he is?

MOVIE REVIEW: The Dark Knight Rises

Before we start: on behalf of Reel Film News, we would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the victims of the Aurora shooting and their families.

I had originally written an overlong piece about the merits of The Dark Knight Rises.  There was a quote by Randy Meeks from Scream 3 about the nature of trilogies; there was a five-item list of things I wanted to see done in it, which I then proceeded to tackle point-by-point.  Throughout it all, I saw one constant theme I kept touching upon in almost every paragraph: I kept marveling about how wonderful the entire Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy was for its constant real-world grounding.

“Why do we fall Bruce?  So we can learn to pick ourselves up.”

The Dark Knight Rises, the third and final film in Christopher Nolan’s epic Batman franchise has finally come and the anticipation cannot be higher.  There’s something to be said for a film that carries the weight of its predecessors.  It bears a heavy weight on its shoulders.  Will it live up to expectations or will the expectations of the moviegoers be so high that no film can live up to it regardless of the quality of the product we’re given.  Thankfully though, we’re given the brilliant mind of Christopher Nolan to deliver us the third piece of this puzzle and complete this trilogy in the way it was meant to be completed.

MOVIE REVIEW – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2

In order to tell a good story you need to start off with an interesting plot.  You have to weave together the stories and backgrounds of all of your main characters and supporting characters into something that works well.  But something most people forget is that you have to know where the end of that story exactly will be.  Author J.K. Rowling, a brilliant writer knew right from the start her story would end.  We would see Harry, Ron, and Hermione grow up before our eyes, all the way till the end of their schooling.  And this, the final film in the Harry Potter series takes us to that very conclusion.

MOVIE REVIEW – Red Riding Hood

Red Riding Hood

I remember as a child hearing the story of Little Red Riding Hood. It’s a good tale, and one that most children get to hear, if not all of them at some point. We all know the story of her and the wolf. When I first heard that they were going to be making it into a movie I was intrigued. It’s an update of the story into a more modern setting and making the wolf a werewolf intrigued me. Werewolves are certainly big right now largely because of Twilight. I was anticipating this movie, but I was in no way prepared to see what I actually wound up seeing on screen.
