Movie Review – Dirty Grandpa

In a week Jason Kelly (Zac Efron) and his fiancée Meredith (Julianne Hough) will finally tie the knot. Meredith may be a bit controlling, but wedding planning is serious business and Jason isn’t much help. Once an aspiring photographer, Jason is now an uptight lawyer at his father’s (Dermot Mulroney) practice. Jason’s life (according to his father) is finally taking shape until his grandmother dies. The film starts after the funeral where life goes on for Jason, as he and Meredith are finalizing their wedding plans. Jason’s grandfather Dick (Robert De Niro) is in mourning wants to go to a special vacation spot where he and his wife went over the last 40 years. What seems like a chance for Jason to bond with his grandfather, Dick has other ideas. Allegedly, Grandma’s dying wish, was for Dick to go out and find love again. As a horny septuagenarian, Dick will settle for lust and worry about love later. For Jason, surviving the weekend with his horny grandpa in tow won’t be as easy as it seems.

Movie Review – The Intern

the intern 2“They say, that a singer only retires when there’s no more music left in them; and I think I’ve got a song or two left in me.” So says Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro), a retired, widowed 70-year-old in his video cover letter. The position: senior intern (for seniors). About The Fit is an online business that strives to provide quality clothes that are tailored to an individual’s needs. Similar to a personal tailor, just online, About The Fit is a blossoming startup that is in the unenviable position of possibly growing too fast, too soon. For founder and CEO Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), running About The Fit has been an exhausting experience. Long hours and a packed schedule keeps Jules and her overburdened assistant Becky (Christina Scherer) moving at a frenetic pace. When Ben is assigned to Jules as her intern, both realize fairly quickly that have a lot to learn from each other.

Movie Review: Last Vegas

Project X (2012), 21 and Over (2013) and now Last Vegas. The first two movies were examples of that ultimate night of debauchery and excess. While they don’t compare to stealing Mike Tyson’s tiger or the nighttime adventures with a Kathoey (google it!) prostitute in Thailand, these movies took the concept of The Hangover, mixed it with 4-Loko, embalming fluid and cherry cough syrup. Such an experience should be expected from college kids whose evening quickly spiraled out of control.

MOVIE REVIEW: Silver Linings Playbook

Sometimes it’s difficult to explain why a film speaks to you. Silver Linings Playbook is easily in my top five favorites of the year, with Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and writer/director David O. Russell all worthy of Oscar nods. This beautifully crafted adaptation of Matthew Quick’s 2008 novel has a rare depth that gives the film its charisma; it’s a sweet, often hilarious piece of work. But there’s also an air about it that is difficult to describe (or maybe it’s just the feeling I had when the credits rolled) that’s compelling me to recommend it so highly. MOVIE REVIEW – Killer Elite

Killer Elite

They say that everything in the past will eventually catch up with you.  I suppose this statement can be true of all of the good and bad things you’ve done in the past.  The success you’ve had in your job will lead to a promotion.  Giving good will towards others generally means that you’ll receive it back.  But, we are all plagued by some of the bad decisions we’ve made, or the bad things we’ve done to others or ourselves.  And those are the things we most fear about catching up with us in the present.

MOVIE REVIEW – Killer Elite

Killer Elite

Long ago in the far past that is 2001 there was a Short film series called The Hire and in this series Clive Owen played a character called the Driver. And the Driver would get hired and transport people in BMWs. The Driver was tough. Fast forward a year later and we meet The Transporter, played by Jason Statham. Now the character Statham played in this film is very much like Owen’s Driver but instead drives Audi cars. Now this led to great debate from action fans on who was better Owen or Statham? That brings us to Killer Elite, which it’s entire purpose it bring us this meeting on the big screen.
